Reading: Romans 12
This verse was a good verse but something stood out to me and I even had to double read it just to make sure I read it right and not misunderstand things. The verse is 16 which says
" Live in harmony with each other. Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all! "
The first thing that comes to mind is "oh gosh *gulp*". That is totally the wrong feeling that should come in mind but I am not going to lie and say that I do catch myself being stingy and not wanting to partake in conversations or be around with my friends. I would love to say the reason behind it is great but at times it comes from " I am better than this and should not be entertaining such conversations." Which I find is the wrong way of looking at other people because I am not better than my non-Christian friends. Being a Christian does not make me better in fact a real Christian will think they are simply sinners saved by grace.
This connects with verse 3 which talks about examining ourselves clear and not think we are greater than what we actually are. I know even me a baby in Christianity tends to think that I am the best and I know everything. I also have moments where I compare myself to others and I am just like "Wow! I am truly nothing and am I even doing this right?" As the Bible says we all play a different role in the church therefore we should not compare ourselves with each other. It will be foolish for us to compare ourselves with each other and that we are not trying to please men but only God.
As a Christian I should learn to be humble and not boast in my work or whatever asset I think I have over the other. We should boast in the Lord alone because it is Him that gives us strength to do everything that we boast about. If it was not for Him I will not be saved and be the same like the people I am being stingy about. Sometimes my own brain tells me that I should be capable to talk to anyone and show love to anyone because God came on Earth and went to a sinner's house, he walked around tax collectors and the biggest example for me was Jesus talking to the Samaritan lady. By the "perfect" people standards she was an enemy and the Jews will not even walk through her city because of the hate and detest they had for them.
I try not to talk about this because it is a really sticky situation but we are seeing a lot of LGBT people coming out. The World is praising them for these things they are doing and Christians are obviously appalled by this knowing it is a sin (Leviticus 20:13). This does not allow any Christian to hate someone who is part of that association, we cannot mistreat them or talk bad about them because that does not represent God in any way. Hating the sin but still showing love to the person committing that sin is two different things. Yes, we can have a distaste for the things we see and maybe even do but we are no more better than them it is just grace that we are set apart. So as hard as it is and this may not even be on a grand scale but show love to your friends who are talking about the wrong things or doing the wrong things. Remember that even when you were a sinner God showed you love (Romans 5:8).
